Really nice KW! I am currently struggling with S. vanderietiae. It's monsoon season here, and it's getting lots of water. It's in full leaf, and S. herrei loves it, but S. vanderietiae has started getting a little bit of tip rot/drying. Is this something that's ever happened to you?

no it has no dry leaf tips, never.
In the last ten years the plant lives from April to October in the "outdoor-dining", without rain protection.
From November to March it lives in the greenhouse without water. Then it throws off a large part of the leaves.
The substrate is pure mineral, very permeable. Maybe it's too warm in Tucson?
Best wishes

Thank you K.W. I suspect it is the heatwave we had then. Beyond that I treat it the same as you do (also pure mineral soil).K.W. wrote:Good evening mdpillet, mdpillet wrote:Really nice KW! You have visited James - nice to hear.
I was very lucky to meet him personally in April 2015. He had invited me to Tucson.
Although we are no longer the "youngest", James has not spared any effort to show me "everything".
It was wonderful and it was repeated in 2016.
I hope You know Dan and Don, wonderful "boys".
In 2018 I will hopefully "turn up" again in Tucson, I'm already looking forward.
Great James gave you an offshoot of "Humkes-Röschen". Very beautiful breeding!
I would like to send more offshoots, but it is probably forbidden.
Best wishes
K.W.

A fabulous display, as always, Mr. KW. I never tire of looking at your Astrophytum collection.
