I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

For good reason! That's impressive - didn't realize there were ones with red flowers! Cool!

Beautiful specimens you have there, Barry. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the seeds you sent will germinate. Are they generally slower than other cactus seeds to sprout?
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Re: North-central Californian grower
I'm concerned you're not getting germination. I usually get germination within a week. They're very gratifying in that respect.

Astro's are usually the first cacti to germinate, often within 2-3 days.fanaticactus wrote:Beautiful specimens you have there, Barry. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the seeds you sent will germinate. Are they generally slower than other cactus seeds to sprout?
Nice plants Barry!

Great show.
Re: North-central Californian grower
And now something from Echinopsis 'Barber Pole,' and my much-beloved Echinopsis terscheckii.

Re: North-central Californian grower
Barry, the symmetry on the "Barber Pole" is gorgeous, as well as the colors and marking. How old is the terscheckii? Beautifully grown, massive columnar--obviously well established.
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Re: North-central Californian grower
heh, I can imagine why they called it barber pole, magnificent flower!

Re: North-central Californian grower
I've only had the terscheckii for a few years. Before that it was grown very hard by a previous grower for years. I don't know its age. But I've put several inches of growth on each stem. It's a great plant.
