North-central Californian grower
Re: North-central Californian grower
My big plants are sucking up the summer heat with relish...
And...very exciting...my largest Cleistocactus straussii (at right in the image above) is calling some friends over to have a party...
I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

Your columnars grow incredibly straight, Barry. Beautiful looking garden! And I'm sending a PM about the Astro seeds.
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Re: North-central Californian grower
First time I've gotten a plant from this genus to flower: a nighttime apparition from Discocactus placentiformis.
I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

Better out than in.
And as the walls come down and as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade recalling all of the times
I have died and will die.
It's all right.
I dont mind
I dont mind.

Buying a cactus a day will keep the madness away.

Yet another spectacular success story with a genus I simply can't seem to keep alive. Happy pollination, Barry!

Two years, they've been content to sit in a pot and grow roots. So far nothing else from rooting tubercles of Ariocarpus retusus. ssp. trigonus.

Hi Barry.
Are you still using the set-up you depicted in this thread?:

What in general are the things you are going to emphasize this year -- based on previous years experiences -- as you prepare for the upcoming winter season?
