My Greenhouse and collection
Re: My Greenhouse and collection
I would tend to agree on that last statement Aiko but then, when looking at fantastically grown mesembs from C&D in California I start to doubt about it.
Re: My Greenhouse and collection
Fabulous plants and Greenhouse! I'm going to northern Germany in April to visit family in and near Bremen, will certainly check out the local nurseries for cacti! Wonder if I can bring any back home to the US?

Beauties - and really well grown!
Re: My Greenhouse and collection
I agree. Very nice! I like those little Lithops. Hopefully someone can ID them.

Nice plants and flowers!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.
Re: My Greenhouse and collection
very nice, those blossfeldia seedlings seem to be doing well, planning on grafting some?
With apologies to the late Professor C. D. Darlington the following misquotation springs to

Some stunning plants you have - little envy! The limpidum looks like it in my opinion.
Re: My Greenhouse and collection
All pictures of today.
Massonia tenella:
Recently sown Massonia jasminiflora (maybe soon available via the MSG plant exchange scheme):
Argyroderma crateriforme:
Muiria hortenseae (same two plants as the one on the first page, but both plants have divided during their dormancy in the summer):
Recently sown Bulbine bruynsii (With thanks to C and D for exchanging the seeds of this rare plant):
The first try in early April I had no germination at all. So I let them dry out and retried them again in the autumn. About a third of the seeds germinated.

No. I don't like grafted plants. I always feel like it is cheating...Arjen wrote:very nice, those blossfeldia seedlings seem to be doing well, planning on grafting some?
I lost one of the three little plants. But the others are still doing fine. Hardly grown, though. Still as little after a few years.

I'll take a stab at this. Have a look at Lithops localis.Aiko wrote:Lithops sp. (anyone with an identification?)

Excellent collection I bet that took sometime to build up. Gives me reasurance with the temp range it's very similar to what we get hear in wales. I was worried it was a bit cold but clearly yours are thriving at our latitude. Keep up the superb work and I look foward to seeing more of you endeavors.
And as the walls come down and as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade recalling all of the times
I have died and will die.
It's all right.
I dont mind

Your Bulbine bruynsii are looking good
Keep us posted on their progress.
I lost a couple of my seedlings when I transplanted them this fall, and several look alive but haven't waken up yet.
They are just fattened fragile roots in the dormant season. One plant was awake all summer, and when I stop watering it, it died.
I was going also say Lithops localis.
I wanted to ask you about the loam you use.
In the States, we don't use the word loam, and I don't even really know what it is.
Maybe you can describe it for us.
Your soil mix looks very different from mine, I use very little silt or dust. Water will just pass through it and is usually dry within 3 days in a small pot.

Re: My Greenhouse and collection
Loam basically is just dirt that's not pure clay, sand or silt.
