Ryan's Beach House Joys & Tribulations

Post by LT10 »

Starting a new year with lots of expectations! 1. Will become a dad, about halfway through! 2. Fighting heat & humidity in new set-up, may lead to some tears until I get it sorted and accustomed..

I particularly like that Frithia with a wasp? feasting on its fantastic flower.

It is actually a fly. Looks like a wasp that is. But still a fly.

Strange is fun, cacti are funnier!

Thanks, Glad you guys like them. The Frithia's are flowering together this year and I am trying to pollinate them...Unfortunately only one D. digitata is flowering!

LT - I have some Aloinopsis malherbei that I started with Titanopsis calcera (sp?) back in October in baggies. The malherbei is HUGE, the Titanopsis is tiny. Any suggestions -- anyone else welcome to chime in -- as to how to handle. Really afraid to pull out of baggie, but compared to cacti seedlings, seems malherbei almost ready to repot!
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Thanks guys.

Aloinopsis seem to grow pretty fast and malherbei especially, my seedlings also grew well and even flowered at 8-10 months. Comparatively the Titans definitely slower across all the species. So I would say my experiences are more or less similar... others may differ.
