Mine flowered when they were in pots before I put them in the ground. They grow about 300mm (1 foot) every year here in the ground.
they have been in the ground about 5 years but were large cuttings when I got them off an elderly neighbour. The 'mother' plant is gone now. New owners who DIDN"T LIKE CACTUS!!! I was a bit sad to drive past and see a big gap where the 30 year old plant used to be but I'm glad I got some cuttings before my old neighbour passed away.
She said she rescued it from the front of a church she used to attend when it was going to be chopped down about 30 years ago.
That sounds like mine before going in the ground.promethean_spark wrote:Mine is in a pot about 60cm wide and 40cm tall, the plant itself is maybe 2m tall with 3 stems, and has been flowering since it was about 1.2m tall. I got it about 7 years ago when it was 50cm tall. Need to unpot that guy and put him in the ground somewhere before it weighs half a ton...
I have an Echinopsis spachiana that has cracked a large ceramic pot in its efforts to get out. It took about 5 years to break the pot
