Re: Majcka 2012
I just saw this in one of your previous posts, Maja. I couldn't agree more! My GH has worked wonders for me, too. I'm getting flowers on cacti that never bloomed and more flowers than ever before on ones that have bloomed in past years. For anyone who lives in a non-desert or non-tropical climate like us, I now highly recommend saving up for a basic GH (mine is good quality and only 6' x 8'). Expand later when you get the hang of how it works. I keep saying I need to stay with my current GH for a few years, as I don't want my collection to be overwhelming. I just need to keep adding multi-level benches and shelves to accommodate the cacti; right now, I'm fine with room to spare. My next concern is how I'm going to heat it for the winter. I don't want to bring all the cacti back inside the house. Congratulations on some wonderful looking plants and flowers. You've come a long way in your cactus culture in just a short time!
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Re: Majcka 2012
Thank you for nice words. My GH will have no heating this winter so I will have to move non hardy plant into the house again. But with time (a yeat or two) I intend to put the polycarbonate on and then I will have the heating in aswell. It's already prepared to (cables and thing). "Slowly the frog rushes" said one of my late profesors in high school. Ant how right he was. All in it's own time.fanaticactus wrote:I just saw this in one of your previous posts, Maja. Looks right to me.Is my conclusion that this is Glandulicactus uncinatus correct?

Thank you Tony.
I'm still gathering courage to sow my own seeds because I managed to kill almost all seedlings I tried to grow.

Re: Majcka 2012
Again, congrats on the GH, Maja -- & all the "new" developments. As far as "too much time" -- (I think ) you will hit a "saturation" point. I have. (I think it's the 14 hr/day job that started back in May & won't end until end of Nov). That's when it's time to do the seedlings ! I did may 1st batch back in Janurary & many of them are doing very well. You definitely can do it !

Re: Majcka 2012
You're a cactus collecting machine!
Very nice plants.
As for the Glandulicactus, it's either G. uncinatus v. uncinatus or G. uncinatus v. wrightii. I can never remember which description goes with which...but one has it's spines more horizantal, while the other has spines that stand more upright. One has a very dark purple (almost black) flower, while the other has a dark rusty orange flower. There are other subtle differences.
I think it's:
G. uncinatus = dark purple/horizontal spines
G. wrightii = rusty orange/upright spines
I'd disagree that the single pad is Opuntia ficus-indica (according tothe mother plant photo) looks more like O. humifusa? The Aloe in that same post, looks like Aloe arborescens.
The small stem cutting withthe long leaves at the top = Austrocylindropuntia subulata

More that "cacti sticking to you", Maja, I think think you're a high intensity cactus magnet! You'll love the Noto. Also nice Astro!

great looking new additions!

Re: Majcka 2012
Thany you all for nice comments.
And thank you Darryl for your input about those plants. I do not know much about opuntias and the name will come handy. As about Glandulicactus I thouht it was wrightii, but I guess I will have to wait for the flower. It was over when I got it, so I don't know the exact type. Eather way I love the spines.
And that Austrocylindropuntia subulata will get it's label.

I finally live to it. My Lobivia glauca var. paucicostata oppened its flower:
And so did my Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii:
And another gymno:
Do i presume right this is Gymnocalycium stenopleurum?
