Nice! That Echinopsis came with seeds!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

Great addition to your community! Beautiful plants!
Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.

Re: Vermont Cacti 2012--this time with a GH!
My life has been extremely busy since mid-August. I've managed to snap photos but haven't had time to categorize them and post general progress in my overall collection. I'll try to do it now. First, here are some buds that seem to have aborted; that did bloom, but I wasn't able to grab pictures of the flowers; or which are still on the way: Two Gymno. mesopotamicum which seem to have stagnated Buds on T. bicolor mapimiensis also seem to have stopped The second flower coming on the L. principis M. madisoniorum, aborted Sulco sp., aborted Echinopsis (Lobivia) draxleriana, missed the knock-your-eyes-out brilliant red flowers New growth: F. latispinus E. chamaecereus/C. sylvestrii Finally, the flowers which made it! G. stenopleurum That strange possible variety of G. baldianum Turbi viereckii ssp neglectus M. sphaerica A. asterias (thanks, Darryl! rates TWO photos) C. hypogaea E. leucanthus (as it first opens, and the second day) T. setispinus (had a VERY productive year, as you can see in the second photo)

For those cacti who have stagnated or aborted: Darn, at least you have the plant!
For those that did bloom: Nice flowers!

Always the optimist when it comes to my cacti, that's the way I feel, too. Maybe the buds will stick around until Spring so I'll have a headstart on next year's flowers.gemhunter178 wrote:For those cacti who have stagnated or aborted: Darn, at least you have the plant!

maybe, or maybe it will bloom next year. I had a few that aborted the first year for whatever reason that have regularly flowered since.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Thank you, Arjen. I hope next year, with my addition of a few new (and less common) cacti, I'll be able to compete with the well-seasoned, successful and prolific growers such as you! First, my big task will be to get them all safely through the winter. That may be easier this year, since I live here permanently now and I can check on them daily.

you flatter me, there are still a lot of people here I look up to!
of course collections grow and since I've been coming here mine has grown enormously
you are already a more prolific grower than you think!

Well, let's say perhaps a bit too prolific, according to some of my friends!

Re: Vermont Cacti 2012--this time with a GH!
Several of the buds pictured above seem to have halted their growth during this spell of cool (40s & 50s) weather we've been having. Others just keep on going like the Energizer Bunny! I'm not sure what the conditions will have to be before these cacti stop their flowers and get themselves ready for winter, but at least I'm enjoying them now.
Here are Mamm. baumii (which bloomed shortly after arriving from M2G), Mamm. zeilmanniana (store-bought & large nonstop flowers since Spring!) and T. setispinus (another store-bought constant bloomer for months) Closeup of M. baumii (sorry about focus) Here are the ones that I brought inside to bloom in relatively more comfortable conditions, all just photographed today. T. viereckii ssp. neglectus (another practically nonstopper since arriving from M2G) Mamm. plumosa (garden center GH bought; couldn't see the buds because of the feathery spines; then, BOOM!--flowers) the infamous M. zeilmanniana again Parodia occulta very recently from M2G And now for the more promising buds: My first Schlum. to show some; my experience tells me they're probably white. And that probable G. baldianum subspecies or variety, with big bright red flowers.

Yes, thanks Gem! I'm probably the happiest with this group of Mamms than with any others I've ever had. One thing I can say: they're reliable.
