Hello Tony,
that certainly is a beautiful hybrid cactus. Did you purchase such a plant or did you do the hybridizing yourself?

Hi Harald,
Peterb did the cross sometime in 2008 I think. I sowed them in Jan 2009 and have been very fortunate to get them to this point.

what a wonderful hybrid! surprising plant to come out of these species, once you know it the flower clearly gives it away though

Tony, do you happen to remember the mom and dad for this seed? I crossed the two species both ways, so do you remember which plant had the fruit for these? Your beautiful plants make me want to dig that seed out and try to sow it again. I still have some lying around, with fruit from both papillosus and pentalophus.

No I sure dont. All I can say for sure is that they were labaled as papillosus x pentalophus.
I do remember I wasnt to excited about sowing them in the first place, because they were hybrids, having limited space at the time and not knowing what to expect, I put them on the back burner and forgot about them for quite some time until I got that urge to sow something again.

Nice hybrid. I've never been a huge fan of pentalophus stems, but the flowers are superb. You've got the best of both worlds there. Of, and that Stenocereus eruca display is awesome. Nice work!

I havent grown straight Echinocereus papillosus yet, but from pics I gather it stays somewhat upright and compact where these hybrid stems are starting to flop over as they get taller like pentalophus does.
There is one seedling not in the pic that is still quite small but has a ton of offsets growing on it, other than that one exception they all look the same.

Not a big fan of hybrids, but man, this one is really nice!
You really have a knack for growing cacti from seed!

I took a look at all of them. That's just make me wonder, when will I be able to call myself a cacti-fanatic-person.

By all of that I look like this: Image
