in my experience, Echinofossulocactus are very slow when young but then grow faster when they are older.

what happens to Ancistrocactus tobuschii if you accidentally leave it in full shade all summer. Another season or two, the spines will come back.

Nice, Peter!
LOVE the Austrocactus! Which species is it and what kind of sun does it get?
That genus has been on my want list for a while!

Tristan, the Austrocactus is bertinii, I think JN13, from Mesa Garden. I can check when I get home. I sowed 5 seeds and had three come up. It seems tricky when young under my conditions. Just have this one left. Fingers crossed. It seems like one of those cacti that is very touchy for a year or two after germination but that gets more robust as time goes on. Sun is partial shade most of the day, strong late afternoon/evening sun from about 4:30 to 7. Seems to appreciate shade though.

more sinuatus flowers and a 5 year old. an unusual name, not accepted "Astrophytum capricorne crassispinoides." It lookes pretty much like a very attractively spined senile, to me.

nice flowers. I got a baby one of the Hamatocactus.. :) old name if I remember correctly but I didn't care about what name it has, I liked the long hooked spines. :)

as an aside I love your shelf. I have one that is similar but mine has crap lumber and old blocks instead of a pallet. :)
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Yes, Hamatocactus was hurriedly lumped into Ferocactus for absolutely no good reason, in spite of different flower morphology, different fruit and different seeds. If anything, it is much closer to Thelocactus.

But the more close, closer, the closest it is to "a nice plant". =D>

yes that's what it was it was listed as a ferocactus.. I agree with the Thelocactus thing, because that's what I thought it was at first. whatever the case it's a beautiful plant :)
