Nice looking bunch of cacti you have there! (...and as always I see the Ariocarpus retusus first (in the first picture)) =D>
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

Flowers pictures are great, but it's also nice to see just random plant shots (especially the different forms of Peniocereus :D ).

group shot. On chair, a maculatus cutting, surely one of my ugliest plants. :-) Then maculatus momma (frozen all the way back to tuber two winters ago, recovering nicely) with castellae, then five smaller Penio greggii and transmontanus across the front, back row castellae and two rosei, then tepalcatpecanus, marianus in johnstonii pot, johnstonii with a single long stem, then viperinus.

You inspired me to line up all the Penios I am growing and get a family photo. :-)

Yikes. That is one ugly maculatus! Nice overview. It's crazy how that johnstonii stem can support itself.

Amazing stuff as always, Peter. Gives me something to aim for with my seed growing. I hope to start some Toumeya seeds soon.

thanks, the Penio group is not everyone's cup of tea. Greg, yeah, the stem is rather woody, different structure from the more soft tropical kinds.

yes but I can't wait for mine to bloom. I still have mine in a pot and I bring it in for the winter, I Think BCC winter would kill it.

Some seedling pics from the January 24th sowing. I have to move them gradually into more light. It is always so challenging here without a greenhouse or prop chamber to get them the right amount of sunlight. I have to be careful to place them somewhere outside where they will get only about 20% more light, not too much, but enough to start toughing them up a little. I have been experimenting with growing them soft for a while until they bulk up. We'll see if it works.

Well, there hasn't been much to report from sunny, hot Phoenix over the past month or so. It is high summer and most of the plants are asleep. A 4 year old Mammillaria tetrancistra from seed collected near Florence AZ flowers today, as they usually do, right after any significant (.3" or more) summer rain. I have never seen a tetrancistra flower before, as I don't generally visit their habitat during the summer "monsoons."

also, a pic of a bee who had too hard of a landing on an Echinocereus coccineus.

ps- oops, spoke too soon. a few other things are in flower today also.
