Lots of action in the garden the past couple of weeks, including a few newbies for me!

First, the coolest Cholla - Cylindropuntia anteojoensis. Really love the soft yellow color of the blooms and the texture of the segments!

My old reliable Leuchtenbergia princeps also started the summer off right.

Then, my first ever Frailea bloomed - Frailea pseudopulcherrima. Hopefully, more Frailea's will follow!

A bloom from my recent aquisition, Turbinicarpus viereckii was a nice surprise!

Not really sure - I got it only a year or two ago from B&B Cactus in Tucson...it was on a $1 clearance rack, so I just couldn't pass it up!
It started out almost completely prostrate, but just in the last month, it perked up, went vertical, then started to bloom.

So beautiful! Indeed it is by far the best time of the year!!
Is that Frailea free planted in your yard? It's amazing that it have open flowers.
I only obtain open flower with a special treatment. Very hot, very bright sunlight and a constant moisture.

I always thought that saguaro flowers look good enough to eat, kind of like some yuccas. I wonder if they are edible?

Yep - all my Frailea's are planted in-ground in a special area of the garden for small cacti. Hope the other species like that spot as much! :D

Yeah - it is found only within the state of Coahuila near Cuatro Cienegas. Described only in 1976,

Tristian thanks, it's probably pretty rare. I love cholla flowers tho.

btw thanks for the info :)

also an FYI cholla blooms are edible, I have never heard of saguaro blooms being too.
Many of the local populations relied on the saguaro for food and I dont remember the flower buds being edible, but they sure ate the cholla buds :)

Here are a few more from the last couple of days.
