Happy Birthday! What a haul! I'd say Tucson nurseries are a wonderful place to go for one's birthday and the plants are great birthday presents!

I always tell my husband he never will be able to say, "I can't think of anything to get you for <insert reason for present here>" or "You are difficult to shop for"!!

And, finally, my first bloom on my Cleistocactus vulpis-cauda (the first one that avoided the crickets, at least!):

Nice, I missed a good show yesterday, too bad I couldn't drive all the way down there. I just am lacking in funds to drive so far. At least I was able to view the garden for over an hour. It looked beautiful, and I got some good pictures I need to put up.
I need to grow some Mamm grahamiis...
They are awesome. :)

I keep meaning to put Cleistocactus on my want list. The flowers are great! I have a Cory sulcata about that size, but potted. I take they do well in the ground in Phoenix? How much shade do you give yours?

Yes - Cleistos on the Want List NOW!! :D

C. sulcata gets full sun until about 1-2pm, then occasional shade after that. Doesn't seem to mind our sun or heat in the least.

like all plants tho, I worry about the cold more than the hot... I get alittle frostier here usually a good frost every year or three.

Hard to get a shot of my largest Arrojodoa penicillata when blooming because it only blooms fully at night, but the flowers are beautiful!

very nice! those arrojadoa flowers sure are weird!
that waxy appearance looks very unlike any cactus flower, also strange for a nightbloomer to have a purple flower

are those coleocephalocereus related to melocacti?

Wow, that's quite a lot of ants......
I also wonder how those thin columnars stay upright...
Other than that: Nice flowers, plants .........and maybe even ants! :D

Thanks everyone!

This morning, I got a NICE surprise instead of an ANT surprise - my Pereskia weberiana treated me with my first ever Pereskia bloom!
Very excited to see this doing so well - it's still very small (c. 8" for longest branch) and was just a 5" fresh cutting when I got it in the spring.
