Nice plants! The spines on that Gymno are pretty cool! Nice flowers too!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

Yes, the spines are interesting on the Gymno. They are so different than normal for a Gymno.

My Leuchtenbergia princeps decided to show off after the week of rains we had.

In Texas it grows in the grasslands so I think it is a smart plant and tries to look like dried grass. Nature is wonderful!

Minor quibble, it's not native to Texas, but does indeed grow in grasslands in Mexico.
Beautiful flowers. Great stuff all around, Tristan.

Nice plant! Is it really unusual to see one with 5 heads or is it just me?
Are those offsets or seedlings.

Thanks all - this is one of my older and reliable cacti!Tony wrote:Nice plant! Is it really unusual to see one with 5 heads or is it just me?

They are offsets...they grow from the ends of some tubercles. They look just like mini-plants. I've cut the offsets before, and they've rooted too.

Looks like you have an f. monstrose plant.

I didn't mean it is a native of Texas. I was at a presentation on Sunday by Dr. Cathryn Hoyt, Executive Director of Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute and she talked about the cactus and succulents of Big Bend National Park and she showed Leuchtenbergia principis growing in the park grasslands. The Chihuahuan Desert is mostly in Mexico though and they are native there.

Had a blast on a recent all-day cactus nursery trip to Tucson.
Here's a shot of my haul: Not bad for a day's work!
Now, I can't wait for the temps to moderate a bit more to start planting!

Re: Minime8484's C&S Collection - 2012
Thanks! I was pretty jazzed at my selection!
I should have listed what is in the picture:
Eulychnia saint-pieana (=E. breviflora)
Peniocereus johnstonii
Micranthocereus streckeri
Lobivia huascha var. macrantha
Echinocereus ledingii
Acanthocalycium glaucum
Coryphantha sp.
Haageocereus acranthus ssp. acranthus
Coleocephalocereus aureus
Cleistocactus (winteri)
Parodia werneri
Agave ghiesbreghtii
Matucana madisoniorum
Plus (not pictured):
Cleistocactus hyalacanthus
Acanthogilia gloriosa
Additionally, I stopped by a fellow-collector's place in Tucson, where I obtained:
Peniocereus fosterianus
Peniocereus maculatus
Peniocereus rosei
And a great Birthday Weekend it was, when a fellow collector here in the valley stopped by to see my place and brought with him a whole gaggle of seedling goodies:
Cylindropuntia viridiflora
Micropuntia pulchella PB128
Thelocactus bicolor
Ferocactus haematacanthus v. sinuatus fa. papyracanthus
Echinocereus fendleri v. albiflorus
Echinocereus lloydii SB1082
Mammillaria yaquensis (2)
Escobaria (missouriensis) asperispina
Discocactus buenekeri
Mammillaria meridiorosei
I've got my work cut out for me this fall!!
But, I love it!

Hey, happy birthday! That's quite a score.
Re: Minime8484's C&S Collection - 2012
Looks great in pictures, Tristan. The Grusonia pulchella (micropuntia, etc) is RP128, from Millard Utah.
