a use for old windows!

Post by Ken Shaw »

My greenhouse is made from old windows. When we remodeled in 2002 we kept our windows and slabbed in the back part of our yard. Eventually we got around to building the greenhouse in these pictures.

When the original shelves filled, we mitred three shelf levels into the part with 90% angles. The 4th side doesn't have right angles so we have the potting bench there.

Hm, can't upload another picture. :-k

I'll just do a series of posts with single pictures.

Wow! That's really cool! What a great idea. I would have never thought about doing something like that!

Yes, I've been looking forward to this post. What did you do for the roof?

An excellent question, Daiv!

Because we live in earthquake country, we were not willing to create the world's largest guillotine by put up glass panes for the roof. We made big panels of plexiglass, and the panels can all be tipped up and propped for ventilation. I promise, more pictures are coming!

Better shot of the roof. Masking tape off and with a few plants back in.

Nice, I'd like to hear more about the roof design. How did you construct it to prevent leaks?

Have to say that being a build from recycled material most ppl would of payed to send away in a skip that looks better than what most ppl would of payed good money buying in the first place!

Did that make sence??

If not then hope this does..I'd rather have a greenhouse that looks that way than a storebought "clean" greenhouse...it's absolutely amazing mate!
