What's the breed and what's growing at its top?

If you have a cactus plant and need help identifying it, this is the place to post it.

Post by Curlyban »

Hi guys,

New to the forum, nice meeting everyone =)

Can any experts help identify what I have here and what in the world is going on with it? Why is it sprouting tentacles on its crown and body and it doesn't seem to be growing in terms of size/thickness?

Cheers

Hylocereus, probably H. undatus (Dragon Fruit Cactus). It's a climbing cactus that climbs by means of aerial roots. They have a jointed growth habit, on top is a new stem segment - the part below that isn't going to grow any more. Not a desert cactus, it grows in tropical forests - it shouldn't be planted together with a desert cactus since it needs more water. See: http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACT ... us_undatus
