Echinopsis ID help please

Post by physhtanks »

Hi everyone,

I've been browsing through some older posts to try and ID a cactus I have, but I seem to be stumped.

I honestly have no memory of where this came from (an embarassment of riches: friends and family present me many plants) and I have not been lucky enough to have it bloom yet.

The needles seem too long to be Echinopsis subdenudata, but are too short to be E. eyriesii or E. oxygona. I haven't been able to find any photos of any Echinopsis with pups similar to this; most photos show them sprouting from the base of the plant, while these are forming from the nodes.

It seems similar to

again with shorter needles.

Looking at this post,
http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... ii#p334223
it seems closest to #s 299 and 300, but when I look up Lobivia it doesn't seem to be any of them, and I still don't think it's E. subdenudata.

Echinopsis Multiplex maybe?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm starting to think that I am over-thinking this.
