Two No Name Plants

Post by leisurely »

These two plants have been in my collection for about five years and I have not been able to identify them. The Haworthia looks like Manda's Hybrid but I am not sure. The cactus is from a seed that germinated in another potted plant after I purchased it. I have nothing that looks like it so it is not from one of my plants. Whatever it is, it is very easy to grow and does so pretty fast. Any input on identity would be appreciated.

I had difficulty uploading photos because of a problem re-sizing my photos. I kept getting a message that the photos were too large and I couldn't make them any smaller. I think I finally satisfied the requirement though. So I am hoping that someone can help me with names.
Thanks!

There was a problem earlier that even if you tried to upload a picture within the size limits it still said it was oversized, but that has now been solved.

As to your second plant it could be a Matucana, even though it is very long spined for most. Scroll down this link for longer spined ones.

I agree with both of you, Davew and Vlani. It could be a Matucana or it could be Buiningi brevicylindrica. The photos I looked at of Buiningi brevicylindrica, however, were solitary plants. If it were a Matucana, should I be lucky enough to get flowers this summer, I could come closer to a positive ID.

Sorry that I am late with my response but I have been quite busy between repotting a multitude of orchids and cacti. Thanks to both of you for you assistance.

Manda's Hybrid does look pretty likely for the Haworthia. Try giving it a bit more sun, it might show an attractive color - http://gosucculent.com/store2/succulent ... as-hybrid/

I lookl forward to seeing the flowers of that cactus, beautiful plant!
