Help needed with 3 identifications

Post by rsales3 »

I have been trying to identify 3 cacti in my collection but have some difficulty on a positive ID. The first was purchased with the label "Lobivia Species" but have narrowed it down to possibly a Echinopsis calochlora or sunrise (maybe). It has not flowered yet and measures about 2 inches tall and around.

The second mystery cacti I've had for about 2 years and I think is also in the Echinopsis family. It is in a 4 inch pot and has recently flowered.
(#2) Perhaps an Echinopsis?

The third cacti I've had for a few years and I think belongs in the Mammillaria genus but not sure which species (gasseriena/grusonii/lauii). It lives in a 4 inch pot and did flower this Spring. It has small brown tipped spines.

Any ID help with these three would be greatly appreciated :) THANKS

First one looks to me like Echinopsis oxigona or eyriesii.
second one ,Lobivia " Rose quartz"
third one , Mammillaria matudae, I think.

Thanks Neal. Looks like number one is still questionable, your suggestions did narrow it down. Funny how the nursery label says "Lobivia Species" really should say "We're not sure" "Good Luck with that". Number two and three are pretty spot on from what I have followed up on. Thanks again.

I think the Mammillaria is more of the M. haageana / M. albilanata family (can't really tell these two apart, sorry).

Thanks for the suggestions on the Mammillaria. Trying to identify with pictures is really hard when so many look alike. Just ordered some tags so future cacti acquisitions and current ones can be labeled. Cheers.
