small red flowers - small red tips ?

Post by mraroid »

Hi...

I was given this small cactus to ID. It is what look like very small flowers on it (see the photos). The spines, when young, are red and soft. But as they become older they become white and stiff. As you can see from the photos, it makes many pups at the base.

Any thoughts? as to a genus or species?

Thanks

jack

It's a Euphorbia, maybe Euphorbia pillansii.
It's not a cactus, but a good example of how plants can adopt similar body forms in response to similar conditions.
