Help With Identification

Post by Rebrab123 »

Hi,
I have recently become interested in cacti, so I purchased a few.
I would now like to know the names of the cacti that I have.
One of my friends knows a little about cacti, and he had a go at identifying them, however he was unsure, so suggested that I ask for some other people's opinions.
The cacti, along with the names that I currently have for each, are below:

1st you have correctly identified as Echinocereus rigidissimus ssp. rubispinus (Frank & Lau) N. P. Taylor (originally published as Echinocereus pectinatus var. rubispinus Frank & Lau). Note it is often found misspelt "rubrispinus", but rubispinus is the correct original spelling as you have it. It is unusual in that it is one of the few Echinocereus that does not have the characteristic green stigma lobes most of the genus possess. Incidentally in botanical names only the genus is spelt with a capital letter, all specific and subspecific names are spelt with a small letter even if named after people.

That "Cereus Validus" looks like a Pilosocereus, maybe Pilosocereus pachycladus, but is still young, hard to say for sure.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

# 4 is Cereus jamacaru monstrose, not Cereus Forbesii monstrose (which is something entirely different)
