Cutting ID please

Post by ydna976 »

Spotted a huge cactus on one of our neighbors and immediately asked for a cutting. I was wondering if anyone can help ID because the owner has no idea what it is.

I wasn't able to get a picture of the mother plant, but it was huge (around 5ft or taller) with lots of branches. The cutting is about 2ft-3ft long.

Also, I left the end of the cutting like that (in the picture) do you guys think I should chop it off or leave it as is? I've been letting it callous for a week now.

I'd think some common Cereus species - jamacaru or peruvianus

Since it didn't break off cleanly, you should cut it.

This can be some kind of Pilosocereus. Or Pachycereus (Lophocereus) schottii.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.
