Andalucian specimen ... incognito #3 - growing wild
This is a cutting from a specimen growing wild by the roadside that's over two metres tall. The spines are vicious and if it roots we might use it outside our front door to deter the local n'ere-do-wells ... any ideas, please?! Thanks in advance!

Austrocylindropuntia subulata - this has more & longer spines than the usual cultivated specimens I've seen.

Since there's not something to give scale, I'm suggesting it may be Austrocylindropuntia imbricata.

yes, imbricata seems more likely (if the cutting is small)
Re: Andalucian specimen ... incognito #3 - growing wild
Should be called Cylindropuntia imbricata then It is US-Mexico species.

Thanks Gurus, much appreciated. I'll try to include a scale on other posts but for reference the left-hand branch is around 25cm (10 inches in old money).
Re: Andalucian specimen ... incognito #3 - growing wild
Then I would say 60% for subulata and 40% for imbricata
