I was waiting till it got completely ripe, but the birds started eating it. After the photograph, I put it on the shed roof where the birds could continue.
Note than it is about 7 inched long.
Ok, its Epiphyllum oxypetalum, Queen of the Night. I was surprised to see such a big distinctive fruit so I went back to the literature and the books I have didn't say much about the fruit. Another day with the birds and I would not have said much about he fruit, either.
For the Epiphyllums, this is a common garden plant, although all that I have seen are planted in the ground at the base of a tree or wall. they quickly send up canes 10 feet tall. I think growing them in hanging baskets would stunt them.
