Your obviously growing it better than whoever first had it since the bottom part of the stems are very etiolated (thin through lack of light in the past). It should be as thick all the way down as the globular heads on the top.

Thankyou very much for your help.

This cactus was found abandoned in an old greenhouse approx. 20 years ago and was in a sorry state. I have looked after it all that time although admittedly it has had to make do with window sills which I know aren't the best! About 8 years ago I moved to a home that has a small lean to / conservatory type thing off the back door that is hot in summer, cold in winter and has plenty of light. The cactus is loving it as you can see! As are my other cacti. I have a mammillaria that I have had for 30 years that now gives me a beautiful display of pink flowers every August when it had failed to flower before.

Thanks again, really nice to find this forum!
