Bizarre Flower Spike?

Post by HelenKD »

Hi
At the end of April our plant started growing what we thought was a flower spike.
This has continued to grow and measured last week was over 3m high. Close up image shown of near the top.

Can anybody advise what plant this is, if the shoot will develop into anything and whether the plant is hardy. It won't go back into the house now it's so tall !!!

Thanks.

It's an Agave (don't know which one). After it has flowered the (main) plant dies. (There are a few Agave species that does not die after flowering but this is probably not one of them)
