Two unknown Mammillarias
Two unknown Mammillarias
Can someone identity these two mammillaria please. The one on the right came as M.leptangatha but I don't think that this is correct.

Kinda looks like mam mystax but not sure (left)
Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
The one on the left looks like M. geminspina. Perhaps ssp leucocentra which tends to have shorter and paler central spines, Or M. parkinsonii which can be hard to tell apart with young plants. M. mystax isn't usually so hairy.
The one on the right might be a sparsely and weakly spined M. leptacantha. The plant looks like it was grown in low light.

I have attached close-ups of the two Mammillaria so that you can see the details on the plants for easier identification. .
Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
Probably some type of M. crinita. They're highly variable but yours is within the natural range.

Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
Mammillaria zeilmanniana is now considered a subspecies of M. crinita, which iann said it was, so you're in agreement - I also agree with that.KittieKAT wrote:Mammillaria zeilmanniana "pink crown" i think

Oooh good to kno thanks greenknight . I would like to get a new one eventually since the mom plant died and soon after trying to re-root the offsets my roommate killed them by watering the pot when they didn't have roots grrrr.. i tried to cut the rott off but it was too late unfortunately.
Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
And unfortunately the seeds i sowed last year were all destroyed by the guy who broke into the porch and destroyed everything
Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
The first shown plant can be also Mammillaria (formosa ssp.) chionocephala, even most likely.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
One on the right Andreas looks a lot like Mammillaria wildii, sometimes considered a subspecies of crinita.

"M.leptangatha"
I presume they meant M. leptantha which is a variety of M. rekoi, and it's certainly not that:-

Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
I think you mean leptacantha, Dave - but you're right, it doesn't fit.

Re: Two unknown Mammillarias
Yes leptacantha, me not further checking the spelling since I perpetuated the spelling mistake in the link I gave!
