After some more consideration on the subject, the think the real name is Mammillaria elongata v. minima
and that was the name on the tag when I bought it

It may be a real species, and the original poster's plant may be a different clone than the "Gold Nugget"
Which has more gold tinged spines and goes monstrose at times,
or maybe it is the same clone but the different growing conditions created paler spines

I found the name "Gold Nugget" in the Gordon Rowley Monstrose Book years after I first got the plant

They are easy to propagate by cuttings. I top off a long rooted cutting so the base will quickly cluster, and then root the top for the next batch.

In my personal collection, I have a monstrose Gold Nugget, two actually, growing from one central base then clustering on top.
