Copiapoa haseltoniana specimen plant?

Post by BarryRice »

Hey guys

I'm inventorying the Copiapoa collection at UC Davis Botanical Conservatory. We're ultimately going to be deciding which to keep, in these days of tough budgets.

I'm thinking this monster is Copiapia haseltoniana, since it looks like other specimens that are properly labelled. Watcha think?

I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

The "orange" wool is a characteristic of the species. Nice plant, mine surprised me when it flowered only the size of a tennis ball since I thought the cinerea types needed to be much larger.

They get much larger in habitat, particularly the form named as as gigantea by Backeberg which can get to over 1 meter high.
