I'm hoping I got the right species. This is the size of a baseball, it looks purple out of light but with camera flash it picks up green and some pink areas. It was quite expensive I guess because most cacti are sold small.
Also, it has offsets near the roots, can I remove them to make potting easier, I only like offsets higher up.

Yes, I'd say that's G, friedrichii. Big, mature plant, not surprising it was expensive.
Sure, you can remove the offsets if you want. Pot them up, they probably have roots already. Always nice to have spare plants.
