I picked up 2 specimens of the same species (as far as I can tell). The first photo is the larger specimen and looks like it has begun to grow for the season. The second is the smaller which I put next to known seedlings for comparison.

The whiteness and density of the juvenile spines makes me wonder whether it may be
an Espostoa.

Hard to tell when small but it resembles one I have that came labeled Micranthocereus estevesii. Sue
