small pupping cactus ID help please

Post by CeeKay9 »

I've had this specimen for a couple of years now, (it started as a single pup cut from a much larger mother plant cluster that someone I worked for was growing), but I still cannot id it. ](*,) Any help would be much appreciated.

I agree. M. prolifera has a lot of variations in the spines, I like that one a lot.

The pot looks a little large for the size if the plant, they don't have a real large root system.

It has not yet flowered, but it definitely seems likely, thanks a lot you guys! I'll know for sure whenever it flowers :), and believe it or not, its roots are actually starting to grow out of the holes in the bottom of the pot.

They bloom very freely once they've grown into their pot, looks like this one has been putting all its energy into making pups trying to fill all that space. Apparently it has now filled that pot with roots, since they're coming out the drain holes, so good chance it'll bloom next year.

I hope so, like you said, its probably more focused on producing new pups instead of using its energy to flower right now.
