Re: mammillaria of some kind
"My guess is that the plants of Chris are young M. wagneriana/M. gummifera." from the link isn't the internet great ?

These guys are not quite sure either but it looks like they have the same cactus from around the same area. I have been given the seed pods and many tiny cactus are germinating.
A pale yellow small seed. A few years, more like 10 then because my cactus grow really slow, and I'll have a flower. Looks like something one can buy at Home Depot common mammillarias from a less desert area so easier to grow.

Re: mammillaria of some kind
Doesn't seem quite right to me. M. gummifera has central spines and rarely forms large clumps. I can't think of any obvious alternatives though, so maybe there are local forms that look like this.

Maybe M. llodyii ?
Re: mammillaria of some kind
I thought about M. lloydii, but it doesn't usually have five spines and it doesn't usually form clumps at all, let alone such a bug one. Also the areoles usually appear large and well spaced, but it is difficult to judge how large that plant is. Difficult to judge at all with such large specimens, I'm used to plants that are barely more than seedlings.

Wait a few years and we can look at smaller ones . Sprouted pretty easily now if I can keep them going..
