Help with ID

Post by larziepan »

Hello, I bought this little cactus from a shop up by me and I have no idea what kind it is!
I also have no idea how to take care of the little guy or if he is healthy.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated, i'm a total newbie at this.
I think it might be some sort of Echinocactus, but I might be wrong.

I also have no idea why the pictures rotated. I am not good at this.

I'm thinking Ferocactus wislizenii.

I'm afraid I see some bugs there. White ones.

The white specks on top, rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and clean them off. :)

Right. Do that.

I usually water them with nicotine too. But it can be kind of late now when September riches half of itself.

Definitely a Ferocactus, hard to be sure of the species when they're young.

The white specks could be mealybugs. See Cacti Care - Pests and Diseases. Really need to get rid of those.

I was going to point you at the Cultivation forum for information on repotting, but I see you already posted there, so I'll reply to that post.
