It looks like opuntia ficus-indica, very heavily cultivated world wide in warmer climates. I believe it can be used as grafting stock.
And as the walls come down and as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade recalling all of the times
I have died and will die.
It's all right.
I dont mind
I dont mind.

You may be interested in using this tile method to hold the pad whilst grafting on it. The video is in Dutch but the pictures are self explanatory:-

I would not handle the pads with your fingers though due to glochids, his plant must be glochid free! Also don't take the bands off for a few days until the graft has taken.

Also you can graft tubercles:-

Have done some screen shots for you. This shows him trapping the Opuntia pad between two wall tiles to hold it then wrapping elastic bands around them and cutting off the top of the pad to graft on. I think it shows the method for you?

You can even use a rubber band over the tile to hold the graft in place for a few days until it takes:-

For tubercle grafting, you just stick these on with their own sap though, no need for a band to hold them down:-

An easy way to use Opuntia pads for grafting on whilst avoiding the glochids!
