Need help to ID

Post by sulcata2014 »

Can someone help me ID these cacti and tell me if these are toxic or hazardous? I'm planning to place them in my tortoise enclosure.

Don't think so but the tortoises will be probably be hazardous to the cacti, they feed on Opuntia's on the Galapagos and elsewhere:-

http://www.cactusfortortoises.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tortoises are the shelled equivalent of goats, they seem to be able to eat almost anything spiny! However see the following link what not to feed:-

I wouldn't put these into a tortoise enclosure,I keep tortoises and the cacti can harm them.Only cactus you should really put in is opuntia.Which the tortoises like to eat.The tortoises will probably have a go at eating them and the spines will stick in their mouths or eyes.Also some cacti contain latex which is poisonous.

The first one looks like Echinopsis arachnacantha.
In the 2nd photo, the middle one is a Mammillaria but I don't know which species.
I can't really tell what the one on the right is sorry ...

The one on the right looks like another possible candidate for Echinopsis. To be certain we'd need a closer photo with better lighting.
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
