Hi all!
This cutie I picked up for $2 at the LA Inter-City Show this weekend - just couldn't resist. Love the compact form and spines.
Hoping someone could point me in the right direction for an ID.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Mammilaria ID
I could be way wrong but the tight, star-burst spines look like my Huitzilopochtli. May have to wait for flowers, they have prominent long fruits. Sue

Re: Mammilaria ID
I'm glad you guessed that too, because Mammillaria huitzilopochtli was what I first thought of when I spotted this guy on the cheapo table at the Inter-city show this weekend!
However, I also nabbed a definite Mammillaria huitzilopochtli from another vendor, and now I see definite differences.
Here are the two together (Mammillaria huitzilopochtli on the left, unknown on the right).
I'm stumped...but, there are so many Mamms, that I just know it is right in front of my face!

I'm leaning towards Mammillaria crucigera ssp. tlalocii that has also been suggested...

Definitely not Mammillaria crucigera ssp. tlalocii
There are 20 species that look like that new one
so it's hard to tell

Can you list some of those 20 so I can do some more research and/or keep my eye on certain characteristics as it grows?
Re: Mammillaria ID
Try M. perbella. But as mentioned, there are a few species that look more or less like yours.

Re: Mammillaria ID
M. perbella does appear to be pretty close, and the more I look around, the more I see why M crucigera isn't correct.
Looking more into it, SnowFella's suggestions of M. microthele is looking the closest so far.
Thanks all for the great info and help!
