Wondering a couple things about this guy...

My roommate picked this up as a cutting. We planted it a while back and over the past month or so this little bud has been sprouting from the top of it. It's getting longer and flatter as it's grown and we've been trying to guess at what it might be... what do you think? Any ideas as to where it might go from here?

Also wondering about the identification of this cactus, if anyone knows.

I'm a little confused about exactly what you are asking. Are you looking for the name of the plant in the center (the one with the bud) and the one on the right? The one with the bud is an Opuntia, maybe Opuntia ficus-indica though I'm not certain on the species. The one on the right isn't a cactus, it is an Aloe.

It's growing a new pad which is narrower than it should be because it's etiolated (needs more sun).
