ID on 2 cacti/succulent?
ID on 2 cacti/succulent?
Hello everyone. I was at a customers house recently and made mention to how much I like his cacti and succulent collection. So, he gave me clippings of 2 of the plants but, he did not know what they were. All he could tell me was that the slim green one makes some kind of white slime if it is broken that will irritate your skin and eyes. So are these both succulents or is the green one with thorns a cacti?

The one on the left is a succulent, Haworthia. I can't really tell about the one on the right. If that one produces the irritating white sap, then it may be a Euphorbia of some sort, another succulent. On the other hand, it also looks somewhat like a species of Cylindropuntia, a cactus.
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Re: ID on 2 cacti/succulent?
It's a Euphorbia so be careful of the sap. Euphorbiaceae is a very big plant family and not all are succulents, in fact some garden weeds belong to it I believe:-

They're very similar, but the leaves of H. fasciata are smooth on the upper side, while attenuata has bumps on both sides. H. attenuata is far more common, so that's probably what it is - but you can't tell from the picture.hlchang wrote:Can it be Haworthia fasciata?
