Help with an ID

Post by Spiny08 »

Hello everyone!

I've recently bought the following cactus and I can't find its type online. It's definitely an Opuntia (resembles Opuntia Monstrose), but don't know which one.

Try looking for a match in Astrocylindropuntia. Can't see it in detail from the photo, but you will be able to compare it for yourself when find a good match.

Thanks Susi.
I googled for Astrocylindropuntia, but unfortunately haven't found a single picture of my cactus. Perhaps it's not Astrocylindropuntia. :(

No expert here, but to me it looks like one of those indeterminate and variable varieties often sold as "Fairy Castle"--this one without the strong rib form. But it's struggling for light. Introduce it gradually to stronger (but not burning) light for several hours per day.
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!

Try the correct spelling  Austrocylindropuntia subulata montrosa. It's lacking the normal leaves due to dehydration, and it's gone hairy and spindly due to lack of light.

Thanks guys!
I really hope you are right and that it really is Austrocylindropuntia subulata Monstrose.
I've been treating it pretty good so far for the last couple of months (very bright shade during the day with 2 hours of direct sunlight and watering around every 5-7 days when the soil is completely dry).
