I obtained a cutting of a plant called Echinopsis brevispinulosus...called the "Corn Cob Cactus".
That not being a valid name, I'm posting here in hopes it might be enough to suggest an ID - although, as Daiv said, flowers and distribution would help (I was told the flower is white and nocturnal).
Any ideas or info are appreciated!

an update .. Echinopsis bridgesi (from Trichocereus) but when I looked that up, on Cactiguide it game me this name.. http://www.cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus ... geniformis" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(so more conflicting information)
