Need help with ID
I bought 3 little cacti that I cannot identify. The second one I was a little careless with (knocked it over) and it produced milky white sap from the top of each of the "stems". Is it poisonous? If it is, how much harm can it do?

Re: Need help with ID
1 looks like parodia schumanniana and 2 is a euphorbia, a clear image may help to get a species.

I'll try to take another photo. My camera is not the best one.Tony wrote:1 looks like parodia schumanniana and 2 is a euphorbia, a clear image may help to get a species.
Re: Need help with ID
The milky sap from the Euphorbia is mildly poisonous, so avoid getting it into mouth, eyes or cuts. The quickest way to stop the sap flowing is to dab the area with a little cold water.
Cactus enthusiast on and off since boyhood. I have a modest collection of cacti & succulents.
Re: Need help with ID
Think the first is probably Parodia (Eriocactus, Notocactus) leninghausii. Cactus 3 as Ivan says is Astrophytum ornatum.
Regarding the pictures, not sure how close your camera will focus? However you may be getting a little too close to the subject for your lens to focus, which is why the pictures are fuzzy. Just because you can see an image on the focusing screen that large does not always mean the lens can focus that close. Move back a little next time and see if they are sharper?

also for close ups see if you have a Macro setting, those usually are clear, but with my new camera sometimes I still get blurry images so, I probably am too close for it to work.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
Re: Need help with ID
maybe Euphorbia submammillaris fa. pfersdorfii for the last one?

I wander if the Euphorbia is etiolated Euphorbia jansenvillensis. A better picture will help.
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
