Monstrose Echinopsis peruvianus?

Growing in the Central Valley of California, near Sacramento.

I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

No, more like Cereus peruvianus - the flowers are naked in Cereus - no spines or bristles.
