two need an identification

Post by don »

i've been waiting for the blooms to attempt an ID...anyone have any ideas on what they might be? The first resembles a m. spinosissima and the second might be some kind of Gymnocalycium...but I really do not know. Any help would be appreciated...thank you.

First one looks like M. spinosissima to me, too. Not sure about the second, Gymnocalycium pflanzii?

The first one looks like M. spinosissima pilcayensis.
Could the second one be a Cory.?

I agree with the Coryphantha sp. identification based on the flowers being produced from the apex of the plant. However, I do not clearly see the typical indentation running the length of the tubercle. That would be a second characteristic feature for Coryphantha spp.

That's a Gymnocalycium. Don't think it is G. pflanzii though, too spiny. G. pflanzii flowers are also a little odd and these look fairly typical for a Gymnocalycium.

Yes, the flowers are typical Gymno - agree that it's awfully spiny for pflanzii, and the flower are not quite right, but it doesn't seem to be a typical specimen of anything I could find.

G. hossei does look like a contender.
