dividing Echinocactus grusonii

Hi, if there are multiple Echinocactus grusonii stems growing together will they survive being separated? Sorry about the lack of technical language. I'm new at this.

Its common to buy cacti with several plants of the same species grown in a single pot, espcially for plants like E. grusonii, which pretty much never branch unless damaged, so multiple stems are almost certainly different plants.
If you remove them from the pot and very carefully tease the roots apart, you will end up with separate plants. Pot them up in very well drained compost, and keep them dry for a week or, to be safe, rather longer, for any damage to the roots to heal before watering.

Agreed, perhaps I should have said this. The individual plants grow very large. Clustered closely together they will be competing for space, nutrients, light and water. Long term not all will survive.
