Minimum Winter Temperatures

Post by Robb »

Summer is winding down here, and in preparation for winter I need to figure out what plants I may need to take inside. Last year I was able to keep everything in the greenhouse, (except my one Discocactus) without any frost damage. Although, this year I have a few more "tender" plants that have made the move from seedlings to greenhouse plants. These plants include Frailea (aureispina, pseudograhliana, grahliana, and pygmaea). Llifle says 5-10 Celsius degrees for Frailea, and the minimum temperature i had last year was about -1, so would it be better if I did take them inside, or could I risk it?

Don't risk it, Frailea are tiny plants and you should find some spot for them inside. I have no idea about your winter down there but I have never taken my Frailea plants outside.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Okay, thanks very much for that 7george! My Frailea castanea did survive last winter in there without any damage, but it is grafted onto a cereus. I think I still will take them inside anyway.
