Gymnocalycium vatteri coring

Post by BarryRice »

Hey guys

Last fall I stupidly sunburned my FAVORITE clone of Gymnocalycium vatteri. I adored the spination of this one.

Well, it has never pupped, so you can see what I'm doing to help encourage this behavior!

I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

Too bad, but hopefully you'll soon have more than you know what to do with! By the way, the lighting in your picture makes it look like you have the Ark of the Covenant from Indiana Jones in there!

Here's what it looks like after a month. The conical hole I made has expanded and healed

It may not pup until next year. Maybe never, but I supect it will sprout eventually. Might do something weird like pupping near the top though.

Well, I'm simply hoping for a good, separable growth to develop, which I might be able to root. I'm not interested in a multi headed plant--rather just an non-sunburned version of this guy.

Hey Tony

Yep, I'm still planning on doing the intercity show! Saturday morning I'll be lined up at the gate.

Cheers!
