Is there anyone who could advice me as to whether this pomice (pumice?)http://www.ebay.it/itm/271002661693?ssP ... 1423.l2649 would be a good buy for re-potting? Not regarding the price but benefits to the plants. I am very torn between this and lapillo. Would there be any difference as to the benefits of one versus the other? I have a feeling that one is as good as the other but just wanted to be sure before buying.

Re: Pumice versus lapillo?
I think lapillo is what we call "scoria" here. The benefits to the plant between scoria and pumice are probably negligible. I am not sure why, but in my region, pumice is less expensive. Otherwise, I would use scoria. The reddish-brown cinders are quite attractive, especially as a top dressing for potted plants.

Re: Pumice versus lapillo?
It's all volcanic rock; pumice came from magma that had a higher gas content, so it puffed more. Scoria is still porous, provides much of the same benefits as pumice. Lapilli are just small pieces of scoria that erupted from a volcano - it can also erupt in large "blocks", or in lava flows.
I live not far from Mt. St. Helens, tumamoc, I can tell you why pumice is cheaper - the Northwest volcanoes produce huge amounts of pumice and blast it for miles. Fresh pumice deposits are very unstable, easily washed away, "mud flows" carry it far down the valleys. Lots of places to quarry pumice.
