I have no experience with melocacti but i can say that the burnt areas will not get green again. You can acclimate most of the cacti to full sun. My P. Magnifica and E. Sundenudata were in full blazing sun and did just fine. Your case is just like when you buy cacti from say the supermarket and then put them immediately in the sun. Even if the sun is not too strong, it will burn as it's not used to sun rays in the shade of the supermarket.
Now for the melocactus, what i like to do when a cactus of mine is damaged severly is to destroy the growth tip, wait for it to pup and start over again with pups. But this a very drastic measure!
There are more cacti in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
