May Hawthoria is sick

Post by marklogs »

Hi Guys Good Day,

I came across this forum when I was searching for a way to save my Hawthoria. It looked like I have overwatered it :(

What happened was the plant lost it's stripes and it looked withered. (This is only after 2 days of watering it)

As of now I've removed it from the soil hoping that it could help.

If you have any tips, please let me know.

Thanks and Best Regards

Looks bad. If the roots have rotted, the only hope is to cut off the part that's not rotten and re-root it.

Thank you, what I did is I removed the rotten root and replanted it straight. Should I use a new soil for this?

Yes, throw out the old soil. Make sure you cut off any trace of rot. Leave it out of the soil to heal for a few days, then put it in fresh mix. Don't water it until it starts to grow roots, this may take a while. Good luck, hope you caught it soon enough.

It doesn't look so bad to me, so long as the base of the plant where the roots grow out is OK.
There are several healthy looking leaves, don't worry if they shrivel a bit before it roots.

Yes - if the plant can't take up enough water, it will consume what's in the oldest leaves. The bottom leaves may even dry up, that's not a bad sign.
